YouTube Introduces Sleep Timer Feature for Late-Night Viewers

YouTube is experimenting with a new feature aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for its Premium users. The “Sleep Timer” feature, as it’s called, allows users to set a timer that automatically pauses video playback after a specified duration. This is particularly useful for those who enjoy watching videos before bed but want to avoid the inconvenience of manually stopping the video or the risk of draining their device’s battery overnight. The feature is available to a select group of users until September 2, after which its broader release will depend on user feedback.

Using the Sleep Timer is simple and straightforward. To access it, users need to open the app on their smartphone or web client and navigate to the settings menu, indicated by the gear icon in the top right corner of the video interface. From there, users can select the Sleep Timer option and choose from various time intervals ranging from 10 to 60 minutes. There’s also an option to stop auto playback after the video ends. However, this feature is currently only accessible to YouTube Premium subscribers, who must first enable experimental features in their settings.

AI-Powered Video Creation Tools Also in Testing

In addition to the Sleep Timer, YouTube is also testing a new AI tool powered by Gemini. This tool is designed to assist content creators by generating video outlines based on text prompts, as well as providing suggestions for video titles and thumbnails. These experimental features underscore YouTube’s ongoing commitment to enhancing both user experience and content creation on the platform. As with the Sleep Timer, the AI tool’s availability will initially be limited, with broader access contingent on user reception.
