Review of the Asus Vivobook S15 OLED: A Superb 15-Inch Laptop

Design: Classy and Slim

The Asus Vivobook S15 OLED stands out with its sleek and minimalistic design. The laptop measures 352.6mm in width, 226.9mm in depth, and has a height ranging from 14.7mm to 15.9mm, making it impressively thin. Weighing in at just 1.42kg, it’s lightweight and portable, perfect for those who are always on the move. The Cool Silver color adds a touch of elegance, and the all-metal construction gives it a premium feel. However, there’s some flex in the lid and keyboard area, which might concern some users.

The laptop’s hinges are sturdy and support a 180-degree movement, making it easy to open with one hand. It also offers a variety of ports, including two USB Type-A ports, dual USB Type-C, HDMI 2.1, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack, ensuring you have all the connectivity options you need.

Display: Colourful and Bright Indoors

The 15.6-inch OLED display on the Asus Vivobook S15 OLED is a highlight, offering a 3K resolution (2880 x 1620 pixels) with a 120Hz refresh rate. This screen is vibrant and delivers deep blacks, making it excellent for content consumption and photo editing. It supports HDR and has a peak brightness of 600 nits, which is adequate indoors but falls short when used outdoors due to its glossy and reflective nature. The thin bezels on all sides add to the immersive experience, and the panel is also TÜV Rheinland and SGS Eye Case Display certified, ensuring reduced eye strain during prolonged use.

Performance: Solid for Everyday Tasks

Under the hood, the Asus Vivobook S15 OLED is powered by the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 processor, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The Qualcomm Adreno GPU handles the graphics. The laptop performs well with most productivity apps, although it struggles when handling multiple Chrome tabs simultaneously, likely due to the 16GB RAM limitation. Despite this, the laptop is capable of managing various tasks, from editing tools to streaming, with ease. However, it’s not the best choice for heavy video editing or gaming, as it’s not designed for such intensive tasks.

Battery Life: Impressive, But Not Exceptional

Battery life is a key selling point for the Asus Vivobook S15 OLED, thanks to the efficiency of the Snapdragon X Elite chipset. The laptop features a 70Wh battery that offers all-day usage on a balanced power profile, easily lasting through a full day of work. Streaming content does reduce the battery life slightly, but it still remains impressive. The 90W power adapter provides fast charging, with an hour’s charge taking the battery up to 80%, and a full charge achieved in just over an hour.

Verdict: A Great 15-Inch Laptop for Specific Users

The Asus Vivobook S15 OLED, priced at Rs. 1,24,990, is a strong contender in the mid-range laptop segment. It offers an attractive design, a beautiful OLED display, and solid battery life. However, it’s not the best choice for users who need top-tier performance, especially given the 16GB RAM limitation. If you’re looking for a laptop primarily for work and content consumption, Asus Vivobook S15 OLED is an excellent choice. It may not outperform competitors like the MacBook Air 15 in terms of raw power, but it holds its own in design and battery efficiency, making it a worthwhile option for those who value these features.
