The newly launched iPhone 16 Series, unveiled at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event, is reportedly easier to repair compared to previous models, according to a recent report. While Apple emphasized the hardware advancements during the event, it did not highlight the behind-the-scenes changes aimed at improving repairability. The series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, introduces three key improvements, making it the most repair-friendly iPhone lineup in Apple’s history.
New Adhesive and LiDAR Scanner Upgrades
One of the major changes in the iPhone 16 Series is a redesigned adhesive material for the battery, which can now be easily removed by running a low-voltage electrical current through it. This allows professionals and DIY enthusiasts to replace the battery with a simple 9V battery, significantly easing the repair process. Additionally, Apple has improved the repairability of its Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanner used for FaceID. Previously, these components could only be fixed by Apple service centers, but with the iPhone 16 Series, users can now swap these parts without encountering issues.
Repair Assistant and Simplified Part Replacement
Another notable improvement is the introduction of Apple’s Repair Assistant in iOS 18. This new tool addresses part pairing issues that previously restricted third-party repairs. Users can now configure and calibrate both new and used parts directly on their devices, allowing for greater flexibility in repair options.
