Huawei has been at the forefront of innovation in the smartphone industry, and its latest development is no exception. The Chinese tech giant, which was rumored to be working on a tri-fold smartphone, has now reportedly had its new device spotted in the hands of Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group. This sighting confirms earlier speculations and positions Huawei as a potential leader in the foldable smartphone market.

Huawei’s Tri-Fold Smartphone Leaked

A recent report by Android Headlines revealed that the elusive Huawei tri-fold smartphone was seen in the possession of Richard Yu. The device, which is said to feature a large inner screen that folds in three sections, aligns with a prototype previously rumored to be under development as part of Huawei’s research and development efforts. This tri-fold design is expected to provide users with a 10-inch display when fully unfolded, offering a significant upgrade in screen real estate while maintaining a compact form factor.

On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, renowned tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) suggested that the tri-fold device seen with the Huawei official is strikingly similar to the prototype they had earlier accessed. This prototype featured a hole-punch cutout for the front camera on the left-most screen and was noted for its relatively modest thickness, despite the complex folding mechanism. The device is rumored to be powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 9 series processor, which was also speculated to be included in the upcoming Huawei Mate 70 series.

Huawei Positioned to Lead the Tri-Fold Market

The sighting of the tri-fold smartphone has sparked discussions in the tech community, especially regarding Huawei’s potential to be the first in the world to launch such a device. In July, tipster Ice Universe suggested on X (formerly Twitter) that Huawei might outpace competitors like Samsung, which has faced challenges in reducing the thickness of its foldable smartphones. With this development, Huawei appears poised to take a commanding lead in the tri-fold smartphone segment, potentially leaving rivals trailing in its wake.
