Indian PC Market Sees Positive Growth in Q2 2024

HP has successfully maintained its leading position in the Indian PC market amidst a steady increase in shipments during the second quarter of 2024. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), India’s PC shipments grew by 7.1 percent year-over-year (YoY), with all major categories—desktop, notebook, and workstation—experiencing growth. Desktops saw a 5.9 percent increase, notebooks grew by 7.4 percent, and workstations recorded a remarkable 12.4 percent YoY growth. The growth is attributed to rising consumer demand across both online and offline channels.

HP Dominates Both Commercial and Consumer Segments

In a highly competitive market, HP emerged as the clear leader, capturing 33.5 percent of the commercial segment and 29.7 percent of the consumer segment. The company’s dominance extended to the notebook category, where it secured a market share of 34.4 percent. IDC’s report suggests that HP’s growth in Q2 2024 was fueled by increased demand for consumer notebooks and significant enterprise orders, which bolstered its market presence.

E-commerce and SMBs Contribute to Growth

The report highlighted that the Indian PC market’s growth was driven by a 22.4 percent YoY increase in the e-commerce channel. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) also played a crucial role, with the SMB segment recording a 12.4 percent YoY growth. Larger businesses contributed to the commercial segment’s expansion, growing by 33.1 percent YoY. Despite these gains, HP’s competitors, Lenovo and Dell Technologies, continued to vie for market share, with Lenovo capturing 17.5 percent and Dell holding 14.8 percent of the market. However, Dell saw a slight decline in its market share compared to the same quarter last year.
