Google Pixel 8a Will Be Assembled in India
Google has confirmed that the Pixel 8a will be the latest smartphone in its lineup to be assembled in India. The announcement was made on Tuesday, following the debut of the Pixel 8a in India on May 7 as the successor to the Pixel 7a. This move aligns with Google’s ongoing strategy to expand local manufacturing, as the company also began producing the standard Pixel 8 in India, fulfilling a promise made at the Google for India event in October 2023.
Local Manufacturing Plans for the Google Pixel 8a
At a media roundtable during the launch of the Pixel 9 series, Google announced that assembly of the Google Pixel 8a in India will start “soon.” However, the company did not disclose a specific timeline for when these locally produced devices will be available in stores. The Pixel 8, which is already in production in India, is being assembled by Compal in partnership with Dixon Technologies, a local electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider. The production plan includes an initial capacity of 100,000 units per month, with 25 percent designated for export.
Google Pixel 8a Price in India
With the production of the Google Pixel 8a set to begin in India, there is speculation about whether this could lead to a price reduction due to the lower costs associated with local manufacturing. Currently, the Google Pixel 8a is priced at Rs. 49,999 for the 128GB variant, with the 256GB model available for Rs. 56,999. While the revised prices have been announced, they are expected to go live in the coming weeks on Flipkart, Google’s authorized online seller in India. The smartphone is available in four color options: Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain.
